2 Peter 2:3: And In Their Greed They Will Exploit You With False Words. Their Condemnation From Long Ago Is Not Idle, And Their Destruction Is Not Asleep.

2 Peter 2:3
[3] And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. (ESV)

There is a common distortion of the gospel being preached all around the world. It is not really a gospel at all. I am referring to what people call the "prosperity gospel." In this false teaching we hear that if we have enough faith God will make sure that our bank accounts will be fat, our bodies will never be sick, and we will have whatever we demand from God.

The idea of salvation is only a means to get what you want. If you are a Christian then you are considered a "god." Many teachers who teach this lie from the pit of hell use words like, "decree and declare your miracle." They will encourage you to plant your "seed" money into their ministry. It is interesting that they always demand that for you to be rich, you must send them, the false teacher, your money.

As the Apostle Peter clearly states in this verse, "In their greed they will exploit you with false words." There have been far too many people who can ill afford to send any money anywhere who have emptied out the little left in their bank accounts in hopes of gaining the prosperity that the false teacher on their tv screen promised they would receive.

When you hear of false teachers in the church taking advantage of the poor and disadvantaged in order to fill their own checkbooks, pay for their private jets, and live a life of luxury it is infuriating. We can be thankful that the Lord takes notice. Peter reminds us that the condemnation of these false teachers is not idle, and their destruction is on it's way.

Whenever you hear a person, who claims to be a preacher of the gospel, spend all of his time talking about money, you can be sure they are a false teacher who is in need of God's judgment. A true teacher of the gospel speaks of Christ and his work of redemption. Listen wisely.
