2 Peter 2:12: But These, Like irrational Animals, Creatures Of Instinct, Born To Be Caught And Destroyed, Blaspheming About Matters Of Which They Are Ignorant, Will Also Be Destroyed In Their Destruction

2 Peter 2:12
[12] But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, (ESV)

Peter is continuing in this blistering rebuke of false teachers who have infiltrated the church. Here he describes them as irrational animals born for destruction. Their ignorance does not seem to stop their mouth from running. They boldly and willfully speak against things they know nothing about. And you might suspect that they attack any who disagree with them.

This is one of those verses that has direct connection to the world in which we now live. With the increase in accessibility to all kinds of technology it is amazing how many false teachers have the ability to reach untold thousands of people with their heretical horse-hooey. They love to talk about visions, dreams, prophecies, and other things which impress people.

One of the things that you will hear these false teachers say when someone confronts them for their falsehood is, "Do not touch the Lord's anointed." They are taking a verse out of context. It was said by David in reference to why he was not going to kill the wicked King Saul. The reality is that all believers in Jesus Christ have the "anointing," which is simply the Holy Spirit, who indwells every believer.

False teachers have an elevated view of themselves. They are arrogant beasts. They cannot be corrected. They reject outright any sort of authority over themselves. As Peter rightly declares, they will be destroyed. Sadly, it seems like their destruction cannot come soon enough. God is patient even with them. It would be wonderful if they would repent. Perhaps, some will.

Be on the lookout for false teachers. You will smell them by their arrogance. Ignore their flowery words and descriptions of spiritual dimensions they know nothing of. Their destruction is coming. Do not go down with them. Stay close to the Word of God.
