1 Peter 3:5: For This Is How The Holy Women Who Hoped In God Used To Adorn Themselves, By Submitting To Their Own Husbands

1 Peter 3:5
[5] For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, (ESV)

Many women would read these words from the Apostle Peter and be incensed. How dare he suggest that women should be submissive to their husbands? Before any one loses their collective minds, let's remember that God's way is always the right way, and man's way is inferior. Whether we like what God says or not, he is always right.

Holy women of the past demonstrated their beauty by submission to their husbands. Submission is a Christian ideal. This is why the world that does not know Christ is so rebellious to the idea. Man, without the intervention of Christ in their lives, is by nature a rebel to the core. All of us, at one time, were rebels against all the laws of God.

Jesus himself modeled submission to His Heavenly Father. We could say, "Well, just because Jesus was submissive does not mean I should be." In Philippians 2, the Apostle Paul says, "this same mind should be in us that was in Christ Jesus." What kind of mind? Philippians 2:8 says, "And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (ESV)

Women are asked to be submissive to their own husbands. Jesus does not ask us to do things that he does not model for us to do. The more the walk with Christ the easier it should be to act like him. Easier, not easy. I wonder what our society would be like if we took the Bible as the true authority in our lives and did what it said. Women are instructed to be submissive to their own husbands. This is beautiful.

If this word today is offensive, ask the Lord to help you. Read Philippians 2:5-8. Ask Jesus to help you to be submissive like he was.
