1 Peter 1:21: Who Through Him Are Believers In God, Who Raised Him From The Dead And Gave him Glory, So That Your Faith And Hope Are In God.

1 Peter 1:21

[21] who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. (ESV)

Have you ever considered how it is that you have faith in God? Maybe you have walked with the Lord for many years. Some people can remember praying a prayer. They know that they have true belief in Jesus, as the resurrected Savior. Maybe they have a profound understanding of the truth of Scripture, and they know that Jesus fulfilled prophecy.

Peter reminds us here how we have come to believe in God. It is through Jesus! We are not Christians because we were clever enough to realize the truth. We are not Christians because we were so desperately seeking the Lord, and we found him. Salvation is not something that originates in us. Salvation originates in the heart of God, and we are pursued by him. He brings us to himself.

Jesus said in Luke 19:10, "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”  Jesus came to Earth on a mission to seek out the lost. He pursued us. We did not pursue him. The Apostle Paul tells us this in Romans 3:11:  "no one understands; no one seeks for God." So, how is it that we are saved from our sins at all? It is clearly through Jesus that we are believers in God.

Peter reminds us that God raised Jesus from the dead and gave him glory. The purpose is that your faith and hope are in God. In other words, our hope is not in our own efforts at all. God is very stingy about his glory. He is the only one worthy of glory and honor. He is the one who has provided our salvation. He is the one who sent his son, and raised him from the dead. He is the one who calls us to salvation.

Are you remembering now how you came to God? Do you see how it was his work from the beginning? Give him praise and glory that he rightfully deserves.
