Romans 7:25: Thanks Be To God Through Jesus Christ Our Lord!

Romans 7:25
[25] Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. (ESV)

This verse begins the way every day ought to begin. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! There are so many things that we can and should be thankful for. Maybe you can pause for just a moment and give thanks to him right now. As we look at this verse we need to know that Paul's specific statement of thanks is in response to what he said in the previous verse.

In verse 24 Paul talked about the war waging in himself. In his mind, he wanted to follow God's law. Yet, the members of his body were prone to wander off into sin. This war caused him to cry out in anguish, "Who will rescue me from this body of death?" In today's verse Paul answers his own question. Who will rescue me? Jesus Christ our Lord!

Paul knows that there is a day coming for him and for every other believer where we will no longer wage this war against the sinful members of our body. In heaven there will be no temptation. The great tempter, Satan himself, and all of his demons will have no place in God's eternal presence. We will be free to serve God with no fear of falling into sin.

For now, we wage war. As Paul has clearly described for us it is a war between our renewed spiritual self and our flesh that is prone to sin. We fight. We know that in the end we will win because Jesus Christ has secured our victory. In the meantime let us put on the full armor of God and take a stand against the enemy's deceitful scheming.

Take another moment and thank God. Thank him that you will have a new body in heaven that will not have any bondage to the law of sin. We will be free, eternally free.
