Philippians 4:20: To Our God And Father Be Glory Forever And Ever. Amen

Philippians 4:20
[20] To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. (ESV)

Many people think that Christianity is about living by a certain set of rules. Those who feel this way and desire to be "good Christians" spend their efforts on behavior modification and yet their lives are never transformed by God. The true Christian is one who belongs, body and soul, to God the Father. This is only possible by believing in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Paul is one who belonged, body and soul, to God the Father. He has just spoken in the previous verses about the wonderful way in which God supplies all of his needs, and in fact the needs of all those who believe in him. Naturally, Paul's response is to give God praise and glory for all that he has done. This verse is a beautiful declaration of worship to God.

In this wonderful declaration we find what many people claim to desire to know. Have you ever heard someone say, "What is the meaning of life?" We have the answer right here in this verse. The meaning of life is to give God glory forever and ever. This was Paul's statement on the purpose of his life, and it is to be the purpose of every true believer.

If you are trying to be a "good Christian" and are trying to do the right things while avoiding the wrong things you will always be frustrated. The key to success in the Christian walk is giving up. Give up your efforts and give yourself completely to God. The sacrifice of Christ enables you to be called a child of God. Believe in him and live to give him glory. Forever and Ever. Amen.

Are you living for God's glory? If so, give him praise this very moment! If you are not living for God's glory reach out to him right now. Believe in Jesus' sacrifice. Become God's child. Live for His glory.

  1. Kevin, Thank you for the reminder in your devotional today to focus on Belief and Belonging to Jesus. To often we focus on exterior actions and overlook the source of our actions...We all need a heart change. However, I and many others probably can relate to the scripture which says, "Lord, I believe, but help my unbelief"

  2. Yes Peter. I love that verse as well. I am always intrigued by the fact that when that man said to Jesus, "I believe, but help my unbelief" he was not judged by Jesus. What a beautiful picture of a loving Savior. God bless you my friend.
